Emmanuel’s Jay is Euro Taekwondo Champ

Year 10 student at Emmanuel College, Jay Pringle, has been crowned European Taekwondo Champion after winning Gold in Lublin, Poland.

At the European Taekwondo Championships in April, Jay was victorious in all three fights against competitors from Slovenia, Ukraine, and Sweden. In his first fight, Jay won 3-0; in his second, he defeated his opponent with a score of 4-0 (four is the highest score that can be achieved); and in his last fight, he was 4-0 up within 40 seconds and controlled the fight throughout, finally winning 3-1.

And now, Jay is proving unstoppable! Earlier this month, he took part in the Scottish National Championships, where he won not one, but two Gold medals in sparring and patterns.

After his success in the European Championships, Jay made an appearance on BBC Breakfast with Matt Bailey, where he told reporters he “really didn’t expect to win” the title, because he had only just moved up an age category, but he was “just really delighted”.

Jay has worked incredibly hard for this, training six times a week in both Taekwondo and Kickboxing. Jay’s dedication to his sport has taken him to many amazing destinations, including Slovenia, Romania, Finland – and hopefully Argentina, where this year’s world cup is to be held in November. We wish Jay the best of luck in his preparations, and every success for the future!
